Vintage 1968 c
hildren’s pop up book  FOLKLORE MEXICANO EN 3A DIMENSION. This is #3 in a series and is called "Fantasia Azteca". It depicts the inside of a pyramid where in the background of the pop up you can see "La Piedra del Sol"
also called "Calendario Azteca". It is the Aztec sun stone, a late post-classic Mexican sculpture.
In the stone's center is the sun god Tonatiuh. The rest of the carvings explain the Aztecs' idea of the cosmos.
It also depicts Aztec warriors playing their instruments (snail shells, Huehuetl, vertical drum, and the Teponaxtle, horizontal drum). Also depicted is "Cuauhtecuhtli" an eagle warrior and a "Ocelotecuhtli" a tiger warrior and a virgin or maid of the temple, making an offering to the sun. The song "Danza Azteca" is on the back of the book.
It is in overall good vintage prew-owned condition. Pop up is nice and intact, colors are nice and vivid. Corners are a little bent, small creases on cover and some staining on the back.
