Vintage Olinala Guerrero Mexican Folk Art Hand Carved Gourd Bowl Black And Red

This great vintage Gourd Bowl is from Olinala in the State of Guerrero in Southwest Mexico. The decoration on this fine piece is incised and hand painted in amazing detail with the inside and outside of the bowl filled with animals, plants, flowers and fish. Geometric borders have been added at the upper rim of both the inside and outside of the piece. The artist completed this work in red and black. Measuring 7 1/2 inches x 6 1/4 inches at the top rim and 3 inches from tabletop to upper rim, this piece is not signed by the artist that I can find. The imperfections in the paint and shape are common to these handmade folk art pieces. This Gourd Bowl shows signs of use and is in overall very fair condition. The inside is clean. There is some light wear at the upper rim and areas where paint has been lost on the outside of the bowl, most likely due to the outer later of the gourd delaminating. There are no cracks or splits in the gourd. This very nice Olinala Gourd Bowl is a great example of the skill of Mexican Folk Artisans and will be a perfect accent piece wherever you choose to display it.
