Description
From a Tucson, Arizona collector's estate:TWO Vintage Oaxaca, Mexico folk art pottery figures. The larger one measures 5½ inches high; the smaller figure measures 4¼ inches high.
According to his notebook, the collector purchased these in 1973.
The figures are unsigned but are quite obviously by a family member of famed Oaxacan pottery artist Teodora Blanco. Teodora Blanco (1928-1980) developed this style of pottery, in which the main figure is profusely decorated with finely shaped bits of clay that are applied to the main body.
Condition is very good. There is a minor chip along the rim of the jar that the woman holds (larger figure).
