We fell in love with Rene Xuana's work from the moment that we went to his house in Oaxaca! One of our carver friends had to help us find Rene's house, but as soon as we found him we were convinced! Best of the best in this price range! Rene is part of the famous Xuana Family of San Martin Tilcajete. He is a notably skilled wood carver who has a great sense of both whimsy and reality in his carvings. His wife Rudbelia is an expert painter who does fine work with much precision. It is a pleasure for us to be able to share their work with you! I watched Rene carving one of these bulls out of one piece of copal wood, and was nothing short of amazed! The long horns, the coiled tail, the positioning of the legs, the detail of the hooves, and the coil throat detail are all fantastic! There are no removable parts, and the piece was signed by the artists. Museum quality work! These never last. Just gorgeous!!
