NEW MUSEUM QUALITY OAXACAN ALBREJIS BY YOVANY CASTELLANOS Arrazola, Oaxaca. I love this piece because of the sensitivity to movement, use of color, execution and precision of design, and the expression of the face. An artist producing great art but will be known in the history of Oaxaca a master of his craft.A rare piece that is museum quality carved out of one piece of wood. I included pictures of the detail which shows an incredible level of detail and precision in the execution of the design. The use of color through the body of the stretching dog is masterful so that not one design overwhelms the other but compliments each other due to their shape and the masterful selection of color. In the body of the stretching dog he creates the bones of the dog adding to the realism of this animal.
The wood carving of this animal shows a wonderful sense of movement and curiosity.
Make sure you look at the carving and the sensitivity to the animals shape and detail of the face, the structure of the feet and the movement of the body. The animals is not bulky but in a graceful movement of the body with the dog stretching. You believe that the animal is stretching, not static.
This painting style and use of a banded designed format often featuring symbolism central to the Zapotec Indian culture of Oaxaca.
Yovany is from the famous Oaxacan family of Mario Castellanos Gonzales, considered one of the top wood carvers in Oaxaca and Reina Ramirez, his wife, 28 years of painting is known for her precision of design and use of color.
