ALAN ALTAMIRANO
(Mexico, b. 1988)
Known as Mk Kabrito, Alan Altamirano is a Oaxacan printmaker and founder of Taller Gráfica La Chicharra (Cicada Graphic Workshop, est. 2014) and Taller Oaxaca Gráfico (Oaxaca Graphics Workshop, est. 2016) and co-founder of the collective studio Galería Gabinete Gráfico (Graphic Cabinet Gallery, est. 2011).
This beautiful lithograph shows a woman being entwinned by a yellow snake. The snake represents a connection between Earth and the Aztecan underworld, Mictlan. She is facing a corn stalk and a flame.
His works are embedded in geometric webs and organic patterns made up of natural elements as well as symbols related to Zapotec cosmology and the Oaxacan landscape. Altamirano uses the female figure to explore the finite and ephemeral nature of human existence. His prints have been exhibited throughout Mexico, the United States, Europe, China, Japan, Argentina, and Cuba. (#7 of 10)
This is a chance to own a piece of true fine Mexican art. It is a smaller piece of an international known artist. What a great way to start your collection of fine art.
It can also be a great gift for someone special.
