Birds of Paradise - Large Vintage Amate Bark Painting 21.25" x 30.5"
This is a very large Amate Bark Painting and it is really quite nice. Condition seems to be very good considering it's age. I had to read the Wikipedia article on Amate Bark Painting to get a sense of what we're dealing with here (recommended reading). So bearing on the Wikipedia article and knowing it's provenance I believe this to be of early 1960's vintage, that's my best guess. This it seems was produced early enough to still be somewhat 'primitive' compared to the what I tend to view as very commercial contemporary Amate Bark paintings currently on offer. Also it's size is quite unusually large compared to what is mostly being offered today. Because of it's size this can't be shipped USPS First Class Mail. And because of it's age this is to old to roll up, it must be shipped flat. Please view the photos for condition and ask questions.
This was left behind in a barn on a property purchased in the early 1980's. At that time in the early 80's the owners of the property were in they're 80's so I believe dating this back to the 1960's is reasonable. This was one of a number of Mexican crafts pieces that were left behind that all seem to date to around that time period. This has been in dry storage since then.
